About the book (from the dust jacket)
Donna Diamond’s luminous art adds a magical new dimension to this ruefully comic storv, which has delighted generations of children. An old donkey, cat, dog, and rooster, no longer wanted by their masters, set off for faraway Bremen town to seek their fortunes as musicians. Miles later, tired and hungry, they spy a house full of feasting robbers. Quick as a wink the plucky musicians huddle together and compose a bold plan that will frighten the robbers out of the house forever. With the authority and vision of a true storyteller, Donna Diamond has combined her fresh text and subtle art in a stunning and memorable picture book for all ages.
About the Author (from the dust jacket)
DONNA DIAMOND was born in New York City, where she grew up. A graduate of Boston University School of Art, she has illustrated many picture books-among them her own retellings of The Seven Ravens and Swan Lake-and novels, including Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson, which won the Newbery Award.
“In drawing the pictures for The Bremen Town Musicians,” Ms. Diamond says, “I was trying to capture the intimacy and warmth of the turn-of-the-century classic books, yet remain totally contemporary in my interpretation. The design of the book, with its borders and inset drawings, is especially important in achieving this effect.”
