Upon his death in 1952 his wife took over the company. Edith K. Lowe (16 Aug 1905 – 25 Feb 2000), in 1937 she was already widely known as a talented writer and editor of children’s books. Her stories under the pseudonym “Mary Windsor” delighted countless parents and children. Her training, her strength of character, her indomitable will enabled her not only to successfully bring up a family of five enthusiastic boys but at the same time to perform the responsibilities of president of one of the nation’s leading publisher of books for children, the Samuel E. Lowe Company in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Warm, friendly, gracious and tactful with a mind of her own, her business associates respected her keen ability. The daughter of a farming family, Edith Lowe received her formal schooling at Teachers’ College and the University of Wisconsin.
