About the book (from the dust jacket)
The little boy and his mother scurry about getting everything together for the picnic. They pack turkey sandwiches, mustard and cheese, apples and grapes and hard-boiled eggs.

Baby brother gets in the way, but Mother and big brother work around him. At last everything is stowed safely in the car, but then Oh, no! Pitter, patter, splat. Down comes the rain.

This family isn’t about to let a little rain stop them, though. How they manage to have a wonderful picnic after all will cheer every young reader who has looked forward to an outing, only to have it threatened by the weather.

About the Author (from the dust jacket)
Anna Grossnickle Hines lives with her husband and the youngest of their three daughters in the mountain community of Twain Harte, California. There, in her home studio, she works full time writing and illustrating children’s books. When asked, “Doesn’t that take a lot of discipline?” Ms. Hines replies, “Trying to keep myself from writing and drawing is like trying to keep a child from playing. It’s the housework and other chores that take the discipline.”

Ms. Hines has a knack for finding universal themes in ordinary family situations. This gift has served her well in her previous picture book successes for Clarion, including Daddy Makes the Best Spaghetti, Grandma Gets Grumpy, and most recently Mean Old Uncle Jack.
