About the book:    (from the dust jacket)
Gactano, a beautiful blue-tailed pheasant, lived in a game preserve in Italy. ‘There, Cecco carefully tended the birds so that they would be in fine plumage when the hunting season opened. In the first days of the season, Gactano was horrified to see many of his friends killed by the hunters’ bullets. Managing to escape, he tried to tell the other pheasants how to avoid the hunters. When the hunting season was finally over, he determined to fly away to some place that would be safe for pheasants.

This hunting fable is about wild birds and the sportsmen who shoot them, about courage and conformity and freedom. Most of all, it is a beautiful and tender story magnificently illustrated, that will be read and loved by children everywhere.
