Description

Very Good+ dust jacket. A mylar dust jacket has been added. The Very Good+ binding is white paper over boards, cover illustration is a sleeping child and a cat with black lettering, black lettering on the spine, rear cover has an illustration of a snow covered house with black lettering. The book cover and dust jacket have the same illustration. The title page has some discoloration along with the last page. stated First Edition, the “1” is present on the number line on copyright page which is the designation of first printing. The binding is tight and pages are clean. The book measures 8.3″ tall x 10.3″ wide.

M. L. van Vorst’s A Norse Lullaby was published in January. 1897. in St Nicholas Magazine. When Margot Tomes discovered it almost eighty years later, it immediately sparked images that she longed to put on paper. “It spoke to me of home and family,’ she says, “a haven in a vast, cold landscape.”

About the illustrator (from the dust jacket)
Margot Tomes is a graduate of Pratt Institute in New York City, and worked for many years as a textile designer. Since turning her talents toward children’s books. she has illustrated the works of such acclaimed authors as Beatrice deRegniers, Jean Fritz, Wanda Gág, Ruth Krauss, and Alison Lurie. She is especially noted for her sense of history and costume, as well as an uncanny ability to evoke feelings of familiarity with the characters and set tings she portrays.
