About the book (from the dust jacket)
Once upon a time-no one knows just when-Santa Claus decided he was tired., Why shouldn’t he have a holiday? So just as his helpers were about to load the sleigh he announced that he was not going to deliver presents that year.

What consternation! Boys and girls all over the world wept and wailed and couldn’t eat or sleep. Then one boy, Ignatius Thistlewhite, had an idea-a very good one. To find out what it was and how it was carried out and what happened, you must read Phyllis McGinley’s enchanting, gay poem. Here is humor and wit, and underneath it all the true spirit of generosity for which Santa Claus has always stood.

There is no age limit to the readers who will enjoy this story or to the people who will pore over Kurt Werth’s brilliant color illustrations. This is perfect family reading for Christmas Eve or for any time!
