About the book: (from the dust jacket)
THE MYSTERY AT ROARING BROOK FARM By Hugh McAlister. Gage Rodney was “on his own.’ In his ancient car he had rattled his way to the rolling farm country of the mid west. Gage wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, but a bit of town gardening had given him the notion that he might like farming. A meeting with a fugitive from the law, trouble with the motor of his car, the hint of mystery about abandoned Roaring Brook Farm where he stopped to make repairs, and the kindness of a near-by farmer decided him. He would take the farm and make it pay, And per- haps he would solve the mystery that had caused this farm to remain unused for so many years.
