About the book (from the dust jacket)
From the moment of Sugieh’s coming, the Toveys learned that to invite a Siamese cat into a household is to be victimized, to put oneself under a tyranny so absolute and rewarding that there is no escape. Cats, it seems, beat up neighboring dogs, dig holes in gardens, demand their daily yeast tablets–and even blame each other for their misdeeds. Cats can also be the stuff of a riotously funny, uproariously fast-paced, and unashamedly sentimental exposé such as CATS IN THE BELFRY, which profits, too, from Doreen Tovey’s abundant wit and novel approach that makes people out of cats and “cat”`astrophes out of people.
