John Steptoe is among the first rank of young black writer-illustrators to-day. Devoted to the cause of working with children, Mr. Steptoe is an adventurous original, who through his work hopes to convince children of the dignity and pride associated with all human endeavor, He lives with his two children in Peterborough, New Hamp shire, and has recently completed a stay at the famed MacDowell Colony.
